why i do what I do.....

I am now Fashion Director at Glamour magazine but following on from the success of my weekly column in the Sunday Times Style magazine I thought I would bring this page to life every week and also give you the chance to comment. This page is not for me to dictate what you should be wearing but to offer ideas on how to put wearable outfits together. Its not what you wear it's how you wear it!

Ragging Red.....

This week I am wearing RED its a colour that I feel suits most people and so want to give you the chance to get into this trend by entering to winning the red boots from my first look! ( NB they are a size 7) all you have to do is explain how you would wear them yourself, leave a comment below or tweet me @nataliehartley and I will pick my favourite answer!  deadline is friday 31st august...good luck!

Red has been considered a key colour for most autumn winter collections over the years but wearing it head to toe mixing up shades and textures is the most up to date way to wear it just look for strong simple silhouettes

With this outfit I have mixed hints of red like the fur trim on the coat (look for separate fur pieces to update an old coat) and the red detail in the trousers I have styled both pieces with an old stones tee and worn red lipstick (the perfect finishing touch) this look is all about clashing styles but red is the continuous theme that pulls it all together

Key Pieces.....

I have picked out 3 pieces from the new collections that I think will take you through the season; the printed trouser, all in one and the suit and here is your chance to win the printed trousers from the first look.  All you have to do is tell me how you would wear them vis twitter @nataliehartley or leave a comment below and will pick my favourite answer and announce the winner on Friday 24th August.  Good Luck!

Get yourself a pair of printed trousers this winter look out for strong geometric prints (seen at prada and miu miu) and if head to toe print isn't for you then wear with muted block colours like khaki which also hits the military trend too finish with loafers for a boyish twist

The all in one is fast becoming a wardrobe staple and this is my favourite one so far in a mix of velvet and silk this can be seen as a more evening piece but wear with a loose blouse and a chunkier shoe it can be a great outfit for the day (look out for steel toe caps on shoes too)

My final piece would be to invest in a great suit I love this pale grey one and the double breasted detail gives this outfit a more masculine twist it is also great for this time of year and wear with a great knit (another must have investment statement knits have been seen everywhere!) the chelsea boot is a key style as well and love the tassels and buckles to toughen them up

White.....

White is the perfect blank canvas for most outfits but be brave this winter and wear it head to toe and to start you off you can win the jacket from the second outfit!  So leave a comment below or tweet me @nataliehartley and let me know how you would wear it and my favourite idea will win! You have until Friday 17th to enter good luck!

The kilt is a big skirt style try it in a longer length and wear with a sporty inspired bomber jacket but I have added black boots to bring the white trend up to date go for lock heeled knee boots for the latest update nd we will all need a pair of winter sunnies!

Why not take a pair of tux trousers and wear them for the day they look great with a simple jumper and this boxy white jacket is the perfect cover up as a short jacket shows off the peg leg and high waist then add these creepers in black and white for that mod twist

The Jumper.....

TIP...I have worn this slogan knitted jumper with these great leopard print jeans to liven up the look and clash it all up adding the cowboy boots for a slightly rock n roll edge but have fun with print and colour and make sure the jumper is oversized if wearing skinny jeans

TIP...houndstooth is becoming a big trend for the autumn but have some fun with it and try it with these untraditional colours to make this trend more modern I have worn the jumper with tracksuit shorts and the shoe add the extra sporty twist but keep the outfit looking sexy try shoes in bright colours for those scared of wearing colour!

TIP...the grey marl jumper is something that everyone needs in their wardrobe its great to dress things down but still look cool for day so go crazy with what you wear it with even if its a sequin skirt or leather shorts, I have worn it with these printed trousers as I wanted to add some colour and the contrast of both is exactly how I like to dress the trainers give it that laid back edge
