why i do what I do.....

I am now Fashion Director at Glamour magazine but following on from the success of my weekly column in the Sunday Times Style magazine I thought I would bring this page to life every week and also give you the chance to comment. This page is not for me to dictate what you should be wearing but to offer ideas on how to put wearable outfits together. Its not what you wear it's how you wear it!

New York Fashion Week, Day 3

TIP... Today is a colour day I am seeing big boxy coats are around in a big way next winter so am pleased I have this one with me and have broken up the block colour with a graphic check print and by adding a simple roll neck jumper this keeps the look grown up. I have also matched my red coat with my mini red bag and then add a white leather cap for a modern sportlux edge

New York Fashion Week, Day 3

TIP... Today is a grunge day and if you are looking for a subtle way to wear the trend then go and find some acid wash jeans I have worn them with my boots and oversized jumper but my hooded parka is all I need to throw over to complete the look. The parka is a huge 90's reference but it can be more polished than the khaki camden market find! So glam your up like I have and have seen many editors at the New York shows wearing them too the parka will be the new coat shape so get involved now!

New York Fashion Week, Day 1

TIP... I had to go straight from airport to shows so thought would dress accordingly on the flight that would travel well and still be cool for the shows. My favourite colour combination is black and navy and have recently bought the jumper in a men's large which look great with a skinny jean. The key to this look is a statement shoe and these are my amazing new addition to my wardrobe! The coat I picked is made of neoprene (this is a season to mix your textures) and has a slight oriental feel that matches the origami style mirrored bag. Metallics for day also tick the boxes!

Stripe Shirts.....

This week I am showing you how to wear a wardrobe staple and if you don't have one yet then this is your chance to win one!  Just tell me how you would wear one and you can win the shirt from my first look so leave a comment below or tweet me @nataliehartley deadline is Saturday 9th February...good luck!

TIP... a loose oversized shirt looks great tucked into high waisted jeans this can be a flattering look but works just as well with loose jeans as long as the shirt stays oversized and I have added stripe socks which is a great detail to wear with open toe shoes when the weather is still cold and my favourite accessory for summer is the scrunchy this sequin one is perfect to dress up a bad hair day!

TIP... why not try a skinny stripe head to toe its much for french riviera chic than the heavy thick 60's stripe, keep the colour tones similar and add a bright coloured coat and masculine brogue shoes

Sport.....

This is how would wear the sporty trend this season, opting for colourful accents mixed with metallics and strong shapes it is a great update to a trend that generally comes around each year.  This week as well I am giving you the chance to get into this trend early and you can win the dungarees from my final look!  Just tell me how you would wear it by leaving a comment below or tweeting me @nataliehartley closing date to enter is saturday 2nd feb...good luck!

TIP... this season the sweatshirt is the new jumper I love this printed one and the colour block strips gives it the sporty edge I have worn with loose jeans and heels and the metallic belt is a good finishing touch and match with metallic sunglasses which is a great way to buy into the trend for those looking for a little simpler way to wear this trend

TIP... neon accents are a great way to update this trend this year wear with a sleeveless waistcoat instead always do up and wear like a top but keep it oversized

TIP... try dungarees for an alternative to the all in one but for a sporty twist wear with the straps down and add a loose t-shirt and bomber style jacket (the oriental print is another top tip for the new season!) look out for metallic strips and colour block heels on footwear

Florals.....

This week I am wearing florals; go bright or clash them, from ditsy to oriental there should be a floral out the for all tastes.  The pieces are I am wearing are soon to come but if you love this trend then be in with the chance to win the t-shirt from my second outfit all you have to do is tell me how you would wear it, so leave a comment below or tweet me @nataliehartley the deadline is next sunday 27th january... good luck!

TIP... look out for sheer pieces this spring and with the floral embroidery keep this looking fresh and modern I have styled it with silk trousers keeping the colour tones similar and added a simple pointy shoe in black for an 80's power twist this is a great look for work with a blazer and slip or for night kept sheer just add a citrus lipstick shade like tangerine

TIP... for a cooler easy way to wear this trend find a print added to an oversized t-shirt or sweatshirt and wear with leather for a tougher finish but the a line skirt gives this a feminine feel again I have added a metallic boot as these are probably one of my favourite boots for summer great with everything and a good addition to update old clothes!
