why i do what I do.....

I am now Fashion Director at Glamour magazine but following on from the success of my weekly column in the Sunday Times Style magazine I thought I would bring this page to life every week and also give you the chance to comment. This page is not for me to dictate what you should be wearing but to offer ideas on how to put wearable outfits together. Its not what you wear it's how you wear it!

London Fashion Week, Day 1

TIP... Today I have gone for colour blocking and this pony skin jacket is the perfect way to do this as have thrown it over leather shorts and jumper the minimal feel of this jacket updates the simplest of outfits and I have added a white leather heat for a modern sporty edge

New York Fashion Week, Day 6

TIP... My style tip today is about men's Levi's 501's which I find fit better in a men's size and shape and fold up the hem for a cool teddy boy masculine feel but worn with colour and print gives this a feminine edge still. the red boxy coat is a key shape for next winter too so be ahead of the game and find one for you now as this should take you through the year and camouflage your bag and match it to the colour of your coat

New York Fashion Week, Day 4

TIP... Slogan tops are everywhere and say what you think! Today I was 'tres fatigue' just perfect for the day that united nude shoes loaned me a pimped up limo for the day to take me wherever I wanted to go! To add detail to a sequin top like this and dress it down for day I have layered a men's shirt underneath and worn with loose silk shorts and my faithful boots! Add this seasons beefy hat to complete the look! And tip for next season too is find a good bubble shaped coat it's an investment that will take you through to the end of the year! Mix your texture for the most up to date look

New York Fashion Week, Day 5

TIP... Everyone needs to go and get these leather dungarees they are going to be your go to piece for summer as you can wear with pretty much anything and they can be dressed up or down with different shoes dependant on where you are going but today I have opted for another monochrome look and to lift the look styled it with some metallic frames and an orange lip to add colour! Later on in the show season I will give you another way to wear them to show you these are a good investment!

New York Fashion Week, Day 3

TIP... Today is a colour day I am seeing big boxy coats are around in a big way next winter so am pleased I have this one with me and have broken up the block colour with a graphic check print and by adding a simple roll neck jumper this keeps the look grown up. I have also matched my red coat with my mini red bag and then add a white leather cap for a modern sportlux edge

New York Fashion Week, Day 3

TIP... Today is a grunge day and if you are looking for a subtle way to wear the trend then go and find some acid wash jeans I have worn them with my boots and oversized jumper but my hooded parka is all I need to throw over to complete the look. The parka is a huge 90's reference but it can be more polished than the khaki camden market find! So glam your up like I have and have seen many editors at the New York shows wearing them too the parka will be the new coat shape so get involved now!

New York Fashion Week, Day 1

TIP... I had to go straight from airport to shows so thought would dress accordingly on the flight that would travel well and still be cool for the shows. My favourite colour combination is black and navy and have recently bought the jumper in a men's large which look great with a skinny jean. The key to this look is a statement shoe and these are my amazing new addition to my wardrobe! The coat I picked is made of neoprene (this is a season to mix your textures) and has a slight oriental feel that matches the origami style mirrored bag. Metallics for day also tick the boxes!

Stripe Shirts.....

This week I am showing you how to wear a wardrobe staple and if you don't have one yet then this is your chance to win one!  Just tell me how you would wear one and you can win the shirt from my first look so leave a comment below or tweet me @nataliehartley deadline is Saturday 9th February...good luck!

TIP... a loose oversized shirt looks great tucked into high waisted jeans this can be a flattering look but works just as well with loose jeans as long as the shirt stays oversized and I have added stripe socks which is a great detail to wear with open toe shoes when the weather is still cold and my favourite accessory for summer is the scrunchy this sequin one is perfect to dress up a bad hair day!

TIP... why not try a skinny stripe head to toe its much for french riviera chic than the heavy thick 60's stripe, keep the colour tones similar and add a bright coloured coat and masculine brogue shoes
